This book is based on a factual recount of my great-great aunt, Minnie Estelle Mayfield. When I was very young, I cherished my visits with her on the farm. She would cook meals in her summer kitchen, which was outside the house. I would watch her cook, then we would eat at the table under the trees. Afterwards, she would make her rounds on the farm. I actually witnessed her ability to converse and interact with the animals and was amazed that they seemed to respond to her. She was a unique lady, and her presence is surely missed.
